Elsipogtog First Nation’s popular Heritage Path Tour is now open for the summer and fall 2025 season, offering a unique Indigenous tourism experience for visitors
Elsipogtog First Nation, N.B.: Elsipogtog First Nation is pleased to announce that its 2025 tourism season is in full swing with the recent re-opening of its annual Heritage Path Tour for the summer and fall until October 17. Guests are also invited to visit the Elsipogtog Mi’kmaq Cultural Centre and Artisan Gift Shop for a wide variety of locally made, unique and authentic gifts.
Again this year, the very popular Heritage Path Tour is being offered twice daily Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Heritage Path Tour official began in May 2018 and has been educating and entertaining visitors ever since. The tour also embeds elements of truth and reconciliation. As well, the last part of the tour includes a chance to taste losgenigen (bannock).
“Our popular tours offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the Mi’kmaq culture in a unique and engaging way,” says Lynn Francis, Director of Economic Development for Elsipogtog First Nation. “Knowledge keepers teach about traditional and timed honoured ways of using Mother Nature’s gifts and medicines, all while tapping into truth and reconciliation.”
During the walking tours, visitors are immersed into the Mi’kmaq culture at Elsipogtog First Nation in a one-of-a-kind experience!
Following a traditional greeting, guests will enter the community-raised teepee for a smudging ceremony along with teachings and insights that will help connect the past to the present cultural ways and customs. After this enlightening and significant introduction, guests are led by one of the interpretive knowledge keepers into the natural forested area of Elsipogtog where they will learn about traditional and time-honoured ways of using Mother Nature’s gifts and medicines for a better self and community.
Visitors will also experience an authentically constructed wigwam, longhouse and sweat lodge made by a local elder and knowledge keeper. Visitors will be able to step inside and feel how life would have been like back in ancestral times.
The last part of the Elsipogtog journey takes place in the Cultural Centre where guests have a safe space to ask any and all questions they may have about the Mi’kmaq culture, in order to further their understanding of the true way of life in Elsipogtog. Visitors will leave enriched by a deeper understanding and connection to the cultural teachings and ways of the Mi’kmaq.
The Elsipogtog Mi’kmaq Cultural Centre, which includes a beautiful gift shop, is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 29 Big Cove Road in Elsipogtog First Nation.
